Abstract:Bambusa vulgaris 'Wamin', an ornamental species, was evaluatcd for the change in photosynthetic rate at varying irradianee. Photosynthetic rate at 8 irradiance levels between 0 and 2000 IAmol m 2 s" was measured. A light response curve, light saturation point and light compensation point were calculated. The light response curve of B. vulgaris leaves showed a light saturation point at levels >1000 IAmol m" st. Maximum photosynthetic rate equaled an average of9.31lAmol CO,m 2 st. Regression analysis indicated a light compensation point of a very low 17.7 IAmol m·2 s·'.
