Authors:Indira, E.P; Anto, P.V

Abstract:—The information on cytological characteristicsincluding numerical and structural changes is necessary to understand the taxonomic relationship and the evolutionary changes in detail. Karyologicalstudies were conducted in Calamus palustris Griff., a promising medium diameter cane, collected from Andaman islands, India. This is the Ž rst report on the chromosome number of this species. The diploid chromosome number observed was 28. However, in addition to the normal complement, cells with abnormal number of chromosomes, i.e. 14 and 26 also could be found.
